Roger Federer through to the Rotterdam Open quarter finalsPosted on 16/02/2012 in Tennis
Roger Federer enjoyed his return to Rotterdam with a straight-sets victory over Nicholas Mahut.
It was the first time the 16-time Grand Slam winner has been at the tournament since he won it seven years ago and he spent little time acclimatising, as he was only on court for 67 minutes, winning 6-4, 6-4.
Federer welcomed the return to winning ways after defeat in the Davis Cup.
The Swiss star said: "It's always tough to make the change from clay, but after losing my last two singles matches a win is great.
"I had to get used to the conditions quickly. It was a good start, I came through well."
Anyone who has a tennis bet on Federer winning the tournament will be pleased to know that his scheduled second-round opponent Mikhail Youzhny has withdrawn from the event with a foot injury.
The number one seed will now progress straight through to the quarter finals to face Poland's Lukasz Kubot.
Second seed Tomas Berdych may provide the biggest barrier to another Federer win after he looked impressive in his first round tie against Lukas Rosol.
