Murray to play in Rotterdam

Posted on 11/02/2014 in Tennis

Andy Murray is preparing to fit an extra tournament into his playing schedule.

The Wimbledon champion was not due to take to the court until Acapulco, but having come back from the Australian Open injury free and not picking up any knocks on duty for Great Britain, Murray has been handed a wildcard for the ABN Amro indoor event.

Rotterdam tournament director Richard Krajicek said: "Last week I contacted Andy Murray and his management.

"After consultation with his coach Ivan Lendl, he decided. Obviously this is a great addition to our already very strong field. An excellent opportunity."
The event, which already featured the likes of Juan Martin Del Potro – the defending champion – and Tomas Berdych will be a good chance for Murray to test himself before the high profile Indian Wells and Miami ATP tournaments.

The Scot will play Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round.
