Djokovic and Nadal meet for 37th time in US Open finalPosted on 09/09/2013 in Tennis
Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal are preparing to renew their rivalry in tonight's (September 9th) US Open final.
It will be the 37th time that the pair have faced each other out on court with the two players having amassed 18 grand slam titles between them.
The Flushing Meadows finale will eclipse the previous record for the number of times that two players have met on tour, held by John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl.
Nadal and Djokovic may have played each other even more were it not for the Spaniard's recent knee problems, but the world number one is in no doubt that Rafa is back at the top of his game.
"Facing Nadal is the biggest challenge that you can have in our sport. He's the ultimate competitor. He's fighting for every ball and he's playing probably his best tennis ever on hard courts," said Djokovic.
Nadal has won 21 times on hard courts without defeat so far this season and leads the head-to-heads between the world's top two 21-15.
