Phil Taylor in imperious Premier League formPosted on 02/03/2012 in Other
Phil Taylor recorded a Premier League record three-dart average, as he produced some magical moments to defeat The Wizard Simon Whitlock 8-4 in Exeter last night (March 1st).
Each time the 15-time world champion stepped up to the oche the capacity crowed roared and Taylor did not let them down, scoring four maximums and plenty of 140s on the way to an average of 117.35 – the second highest in the televised history of the sport.
Taylor told Sky Sports: "I'm over the moon. Simon helped as he was pushing me – the way he played was pushing me all the time, I thought there could have been a nine darter there the way we were pushing each other."
In truth, there are few who could have competed with the darts legend on this type of form – a recent return to his best that he credits his wife and a new salubrious regime for.
Next to feel the full force of The Power is Gary Anderson, who also looked impressive as he disposed of an out-of-sorts Adrian Lewis 8-1.
The Flying Scotsman knows he will still need to step it up a gear if he is to trouble Taylor in Brighton though.
