Phil Taylor expects a royal tussle with KingPosted on 19/07/2012 in Other
Phil Taylor is expecting Mervyn King to give him a run for his money when both men step up to the oche in the first round of the World Matchplay.
Although King has dropped out of the top 16 this year, he recently returned to form with good performances in European events and has always brought the best out of Taylor.
The 15-time world champion, who is bidding to win his record-equalling fifth successive World Matchplay, said it was a "fantastic draw".
He stated: "We've had some great battles in the past and I'm sure that this will be another one.
"It's good for me too, because I know going to Blackpool that I've got to perform from the start if I'm going to keep hold of this title."
The Power added that in previous years he had been able to ease himself into tournaments, but now the standard is so high that he will spend the next ten days on the practice board before facing King.
