Draw made for World MatchplayPosted on 12/07/2012 in Other
The draw for the World Matchplay title has been made and current champion Phil Taylor will begin his defence against Mervyn King.
King has dropped out of the sport's top 16 this year, but looked in good form recently as he made it to the semi-finals of the European Darts Open event in Dusseldorf and will provide a stern first-round test for the five-time winner.
James Wade lost to The Power in last year's final 18-8 and he will be looking to go one better 12 months on. The Machine has been pitted against a resurgent Richie Burnett.
As Taylor has won the last four World Matchplay titles, the only other previous champion in the 32-man field is 2005 winner Colin Lloyd, who will step up to the oche with Mark Webster in the first round.
Other ties see current World Champion and number two seed Adrian Lewis face the UK Open winner Robert Thornton, while PDC newcomer Dean Winstanley is rewarded with a match against world number four Gary Anderson.
