Van Gaal confirmed as Manchester United boss

Louis van Gaal has finally been appointed as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman, whose CV includes stints at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, had been linked with the job vacated by David Moyes for some time, but has finally put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal said: "It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League.

"To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud."

He will join United after Holland complete their World Cup campaign in Brazil and will have Ryan Giggs as his number two.

The Red Devils legend confirmed he is hanging up his boots to concentrate on his coaching responsibilities.

Giggs wrote an open letter to the United fans thanking them for the great years under Alex Ferguson and said he was looking forward to working with van Gaal.

Will United fans now be looking forward to the start of the Premier League season as much as their management duo seems to be? How will van Gaal's Holland get on in the World Cup?
