Thomas Vermaelen: We owe it to Wenger to qualifyPosted on 13/03/2013 in Premier League
Ahead of tonight's (March 13th) Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has said that he and his teammates owe Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners boss has been under pressure since the German side beat them at the Emirates three weeks ago. The loss means they are unlikely to progress at the Allianz Arena tonight, while the north London side are also five points off fourth in the Premier League.
However, the Arsenal skipper told the Sun that the players want to give Wenger "something back" and still believe it is possible to make the quarter-finals.
Bayern are flying at the moment, coming into the match on the back of nine straight wins but Vermaelen insists Arsenal can qualify.
He said: "Of course you go into this game to win and get through.
"Last year against Milan we almost did it and most people thought it was impossible. The players know that and we all believe we can do it now."
Arsenal will need to do it without talismanic midfielder Jack Wilshere who has been ruled out for three to four weeks with an ankle injury.
