Manchester United v Swansea FA Cup match betting preview

Posted on 03/01/2014 in Blog, Premier League

Can Swansea heap more pressure on David Moyes and Manchester United?

The champions go into their first FA Cup game of the season in need of a distraction. United have been poor in the league so far this term and Moyes will hope his good run in the cups continues in the world's oldest football competition.

Moyesy's boys are priced at 9/20 to get a win over the Swans at Old Trafford and hopefully lift some of the gloom around Salford.

Like Marouane Fellaini's hair, United's performances so far this season at home have been unfocused, erratic and down-right bad.

Predicting a score may be as difficult as Ed Woodward will find convincing Marco Reus that United is the place to be in a World Cup year, but since the Swans got promoted, United have won four out of five games against them scoring two or more three times. With Danny Welbeck currently having a better minutes-to-goal ratio than Robin van Persie, a bet on the Red Devils scoring exactly two goals at 21/10 may be good value.

For Brian Laudrup's team, this third-round tie is also a welcome detour from a Premier League route that is seeing them head for a relegation dogfight.

However, Swansea put up a valiant display against Manchester City last weekend – narrowly losing out 3-2 – but if they show the same attitude and application at United they may be rewarded. Swansea are priced at 61/10 to get their first ever win at Old Trafford.

They will be buoyed by United's poor home form, which has seen as many league wins as losses so far this season. With Wilfried Bony in fine nick, The away team will fancy their chances of beaching a nervous Man Utd defence. Odds of 17/4 state they will score in both halves on Sunday (January 5th).
