Manchester City v Chelsea Premier League match betting preview

Posted on 31/01/2014 in Premier League

Manchester City v Chelsea. February 3rd. 8:00pm.

This is it – the sheikh v the oligarch, The Engineer v The Special One, and Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko v Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba.

Okay, the last one may be a bit of a mismatch, but Jose Mourinho will not be too concerned about that. He got a late 2-1 win against City at Stamford Bridge and if he could play out a boring draw here, he probably would.

Chelsea are priced at 12/5 to escape back to London with a point, while the Blues keeping a clean sheet – something no team has managed at the Etihad this season – is available at 19/5. As Mourinho's men have not been breached in their last three league games away from Stamford Bridge, they could achieve another shutout here.

It may be too early for the TV companies to promote this as a huge title decider, but if City get the three points here, it'll take a blunder of Joe Hart proportions to let the chasing pack back in.

City have won 19 and lost just one of their last 21 Barclays Premier League games at home – a run that includes winning the last 11 in a row. Odds of 4/5 are available for a home win.

Of course, simply winning games at the Etihad has not proved too difficult for the Citizens – it has been about how many times they can find the net. City are on course for a Premier League goalscoring record and they won't want John Terry to throw his head in the way of that progress.

You can get a price of 41/20 for the home team to score three or more times on Monday.

Last year, this fixture finished with a 2-0 win to City – the same scoreline is on offer at 69/10.
