Kenny Dalglish denies Andy Carroll transfer rumourPosted on 12/01/2012 in Premier League
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has denied rumours that forward Andy Carroll is set for a cut-price move back to Newcastle.
The forward has struggled to find the net since being signed for £35 million last season and speculation has mounted that he may be returning to his native north-east, but the Scot dismissed such reports as being "absolutely without foundation".
He insisted he would "always stand up" for his players and did not need to "justify" whatever headlines appeared in the press.
And he challenged those writing such stories: "You justify your profession and you justify your story."
Carroll is one of a number of young British players signed by Dalglish since he returned to manage the club last year, but is under particular scrutiny while Luis Suarez is suspended.
Dalglish may be happier, however, about the form of Steven Gerrard since he returned from injury, which has seen him score twice, including the penalty that earned his side a 1-0 win in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last night.
