I’m favourite to be sacked, says Nigel AdkinsPosted on 06/11/2012 in Blog, Premier League
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins admits he is favourite to be the first Premier League coach to be sacked this year after the team’s poor start to the season.
Speaking after the eighth defeat of the campaign in ten games against West Bromwich Albion last night (November 5th), Adkins acknowledged that as the bottom club in the division there would be speculation over his future.
Peter Odewingie scored either side of half time to give Steve Clarke’s side a 2-0 victory and ensured that the Saints remained pointless away from home this season.
Southampton have now conceded 28 goals in the league this season and are five points adrift of safety. The manager is under no illusion as to his position.
He commented: “If you’re bottom of the league, you should be the favourite [to get sacked] probably.”
Despite the situation that his team is in, Adkins remains confident that they will be able to claw themselves to safety come May.
He said: “If I don’t believe we can do it, then the players aren’t going to believe we can do it.”
