Everton v Manchester City Premier League match betting previewPosted on 02/05/2014 in Premier League
Manuel Pellegrini must be thanking his lucky stars – or at least Jose Mourinho's bus.
Going into last weekend's fixtures, Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers looked set to be picking up the Premier League title, while the Chilean could only expect to pick up his P45.
Fast forward seven days and Manchester City are now in the driving seat to secure their second league crown in three years. A win at Goodison on Sunday (May 4th) could knock even more stuffing out of Liverpool, who do not play until 24 hours later. An away victory is priced at 3/4.
City certainly have the firepower. With 23 goals this term, Yaya Toure has scored as many as Everton's top two goalscorers – Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith – combined and he likes to perform in big games. Odds of 5/1 are on offer for him to bag first.
Pellegrini's men have scored 93 league goals this year and have only failed to register in four games. City hitting 3+ goals is priced at 31/20.
However, if City are going to do a Gerrard and slip up on this run-in it will likely be in Merseyside. A collection of Everton-weighted stats are piling up like the barricades that keep David Moyes and Steve Round from getting back into Goodison.
They have not done the double over the Toffees since the 1980/1981 season and Everton have only lost one home game to Man City in the last 21 years. Furthermore, Bobby Martinez's boys have won all of their last six matches at home.
Another win at Goodison, which will keep Everton in the race for a Champions League spot, is available at 19/5.
The last time these two teams met in the Premier League resulted in a 3-1 City win, back when Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero were on fire in October. The same result can be backed at 19/2.
