Arsenal v AC Milan ‘crucial to the Gunners’ season’Posted on 15/02/2012 in Premier League, Serie A
Arsene Wenger heads into tonight's crucial Uefa Champions League last 16 first leg tie in the San Siro knowing that the result could have a crucial bearing on the rest of Arsenal's season.
The north London club are well off the pace in the Premier League and Wenger knows that the so far elusive European Cup could represent his best bet of ending a six-season barren spell of collecting no silverware.
He expects that this will be another tight affair.
"There are different styles of play. The Italian style is more calculated, whereas English teams are less complex, often based on enthusiasm and rhythm. It really can go either way," said the Frenchman.
Whatever the result, the match will be club legend Thierry Henry's final performance in an Arsenal shirt before he head backs to the MLS and his manager believes that his countryman may have a role to play yet.
Wenger stated that Henry was a special player and even though he may start on the subs' bench he could mark his farewell with a goal.
Per Mertesacker will miss the game, but Arsenal fans may see Kieran Gibbs back in action for the first time since October.
