With both sides coming off impressive Champions League wins in midweek, the fist El Clasico of the La Liga season is set to be a thrilling encounter.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo believes that Real Madrid's determination to claw back the gap on Barcelona could be the determining factor this Sunday (October 7th).

The Portuguese superstar was speaking after scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Ajax, talking his total for Real to 158 goals in 156 games and he believes his team's slow start to the season is now over.

He said: "We played a very complete game and it is very important to gain confidence for the next game [vs Barcelona].

"I am confident that we will get a good result in a difficult place, the Camp Nou. They have a very good team and there will not be much difference."

Barcelona's perfect start to the season, which has seen them open up eight points on Madrid, continued with their own impressive victory in Benfica on Tuesday.

However, captain Carles Puyol was stretchered off during the 2-0 win and will now miss El Clasico after he dislocated his left elbow.
