Posted on 20/11/2013 in International

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal will be going to the World Cup next year after he put in a sensational display to help his teammates overcome a dogged Sweden side in qualifying play-offs.

The Real Madrid player scored the only goal in last Friday's (November 15th) first leg to give Portugal the advantage going into last night's game.

Ronaldo was at it again it in Sweden and scored all three of his team's goals to send his country to the World Cup with a 4-2 win on aggregate.

He said: "We were better in the first and the second game, I'm happy to once again have helped the team to win.

"I think we deserved it 100 per cent."

Reports have claimed Ballon d'Or voting – which was due to end last week – has now been extended for a few more weeks, meaning Ronaldo's heroics could help him to finally beat Lionel Messi to the prize.

However, it will be next summer and the World Cup in Brazil that Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates will be thinking about now.
