Gerrard: Germany not much better than EnglandPosted on 19/11/2013 in International
Despite German football riding a wave of optimism right now, Steven Gerrard believes England are not that far behind tonight's (November 19th) opponents.
Only Spain are ranked higher than Joachim Low's side with England currently languishing down in tenth spot and the last time the two sides met at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, the Germans handed out a 4-1 beating.
Since then, the Bundesliga has only gone from strength to strength, but Gerrard insists England are also an improved side.
"If you look at both squads and both starting XIs on Tuesday night, I wouldn't say we're huge underdogs, no. Maybe slight," said the England captain.
Gerrard might be right with Low expected to name a team made up of fringe players with Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich just a few days away and several other key players in need of a rest.
Will England prove Gerrard right or will the German second string be too strong for a Three Lions team that has its own injury problems?
