Tim Bresnan ruled out of Test seriesPosted on 10/01/2012 in Cricket
England cricketer Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of the Test series against Pakistan in the UAE staring next week because of a recurrent elbow problem.
The all-rounder was expected to be fit after minor surgery on the joint last month, but the problem has flared up again and caused him to miss the opening tour match.
Following further checks, the Yorkshireman has been ruled out of the Tests and has flown home.
Speaking of the bowler's injury, England captain Andrew Strauss said: "We are all gutted for him, because it's come from left-field and surprised him and us to a certain extent."
Bresnan's place has been taken by Durham seamer Graham Onions, whose chances of a Test return could be increased further by an eye problem suffered by Chris Tremlett.
Onions last played a Test for England during the 2009-10 series in South Africa, during which he twice saved the match batting at number 11 by blocking out the final over.
