Ponting and Hussey answer critics with steady performancePosted on 28/12/2011 in Cricket
Australian cricket stars Mike Hussey and Ricky Ponting formed a successful partnership during their nation's game against India in Melbourne today (December 28th), hitting 115 between them.
Their contribution ensured that the team were 179-8 at the close of play and eased the pressure placed on the duo – who are 36 and 37 years old respectively – by critics, some of whom have called on them to retire.
Australia now head in to the penultimate day of the Test with a lead of 230 after scoring 333 in their first innings, while India were all out for 282, with batsman MS Dhoni managing just six runs.
Sachin Tendulkar top scored for the tourists during their first innings, hitting 73.
Virender Sehwag stated that India are keen to keep Australia's lead below 300 and noted that a good start to the next day of play will prove important as at present the Test is open for either team to win.
