IPL auction: Pietersen goes to Delhi for £880kPosted on 12/02/2014 in Cricket
Kevin Pietersen has returned to the Delhi Daredevils £880,000 richer and with a point to prove.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) team secured the services of Pietersen under the new right to match rule, matching the Sunrisers Hyderabad bid.
Pietersen starred for the Daredevils in the last IPL, but the team opted not to retain him at the time, thinking he would be on international duty with England. As this is not the case and the player will be available for the entire tournament, there was a frantic auction for his services.
Despite this, it turned out the former England batsman was only the second most expensive signing, with top honours going to India's Yuvraj Singh.
The only other England player to go under the hammer – Somerset keeper Craig Kieswetter – went unsold, while big-named Aussies, Mitchell Johnson, George Bailey, Aaron finch and David Warner, all found teams.
