Homework axing right says Michael ClarkePosted on 12/03/2013 in Cricket
Michael Clarke has backed the decision of under-fire coach Micky Arthur to axe four players from the Australian squad for the third Test against India.
Following a humiliating defeat in the second match, Arthur asked all players to come up with three ways of improving their performance.
Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja failed to do this and have been dropped, with Watson flying home and reportedly considering his future in the game.
Skipper Clarke said the players' failure to complete the 'homework' was unacceptable, but it is the latest in a long line of incidents.
"I know it is a tough day, a really tough day and it's a tough decision, but at the end of the day if people are not hitting those standards there are going to be consequences," he said.
Clarke said players should have done everything they could to turn the series around, as the next two Tests could be the biggest of their career.
The third match begins on Thursday March 14th.
