Gayle ruled out of West Indies v England ODIsPosted on 24/02/2014 in Cricket
England's hopes of winning in the West Indies have been given a major boost by the news that Chris Gayle will miss the ODI series with lower back problems.
The 34-year-old batsman, who has scored 8,743 ODI runs at an average of 37.52, will miss all three matches and is set to be replaced by former Sussex player Dwayne Smith.
Gayle is still hopeful of being fit for the Twenty20 internationals against Stuart Broad's England and have the chance to prove he is ready for the defence of the short-format World Cup crown in Bangladesh.
Broad said: "We know what Chris Gayle offers. He can win a game on his own
"I'm sure the West Indies will be desperate to get him fit for the World Cup."
After a disastrous tour of Australia, can England pick up some wins and some confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup?
