ECB responds to “unwarranted and unpleasant” Pietersen falloutPosted on 10/02/2014 in Cricket
If England were hoping the omission of Kevin Pietersen from their squad to tour the West Indies would draw a line and herald a new era, they were very much mistaken as the row rumbles on.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has released a statement citing Alastair Cook's lack of faith in the flamboyant batsmen as the reason for the end of Pietersen's international career.
According to the ECB, an "unwarranted and unpleasant" reaction to the Pietersen decision meant a clarification was needed, but the latest statement only serves to draw attention to the fact England's best batsman has been dropped for personal reasons.
The statement added that although negotiations have been successfully concluded, both sides "remain bound by confidentiality provisions".
Can the rest of the English squad justify the decision and go on to perform well in the West Indies and the upcoming world T20 in Bangladesh?
